Chocolate and Before Time Began....

Dear God,

Why is chocolate SO GOOD? I love chocolate, especially the dark-semi sweet kind. There was an actual day in history, a pin pointed exact day and time, when someone decided to add cocoa and sugar together to make chocolate. When and who did this wonderful and marvelous thing to create such a scrumptious and marvelous thing as CHOCOLATE?

What else is in this world that is waiting to be invented that might even be BETTER than chocolate?

I guess everything that has ever BEEN had a starting point. It is very hard for me to comprehend that You have always BEEN and that you never had a starting point. I really can't comprehend that because it goes beyond my ability.

That is why I am not God.

Love,
Me:)

♥Remembering♥

Dear God,

I went into an antique shop the other day and rummaged through all (and I mean ALL) of the old pictures of people. A huge green basket was sitting on the floor and I plopped down next to it, sitting cross legged, and touched every single picture. I can still see some of the pictures. Most of them looked like they were taken in the early 1900's. There were pictures of babies in their christening gowns, men in suits and hats, women standing very still wearing enormous dresses and those horribly uncomfortable looking shoes they wore back then. I found one picture of a man with a straw hat, out in a field, standing next to his mule. The pictures ranges from very formal pictures to very informal ones of men standing by mules. I guess the mule ones would be in a  "real life" type of category.

My question? Well, I assume that most, if not all, of these people are deceased now. Are any of them with You Lord? Also, why don't the family members of these pictures OWN these treasures? They are FABULOUS to look at to me.

Love,
Me:)

Laughter if Funny!

Dear God,
I think that Your design of "laughter" is funny. Just thinking about laughter makes me want to laugh.

The thought that people can be stirred to voluntary stomach muscle spasms and make strange vocal noises and have tears come to their eyes simply because of something they see or hear......Well, it is just FUNNY to me.

Some people's laughter even makes people laugh. This causes a vicious perpetual cycle of laughter if you happen to be around a "funny" laugher.

I am sure that laughter, medically and scientifically speaking, has positive benefits that make us healthy and happy. Well, that's just my opinion. I called up my mother in law once and told her that I read an article that stated that people with very high IQ's did not laugh as much as people with low IQ's. We laughed so hard that tears came to our eyes...ha...ha...

Thank you for laughter.

Me:)

Quotes and Words

Dear God,

I love quotes. You know that I do.

Sometimes the words that I read have an author's acknowledgment, and sometimes they do not. I think quotes carry the most value when we not only know who said it, but we know about the person who said it.

If I see the names Mark Twain, Ben Franklin, Martin Luther King Jr, or Maya Angelou I know the general flavor of the context.

I read a quote written by a man named John Haggai (I do not know him). I love these words:

"Attempt something so impossible that unless God is in it, it's doomed to failure."

Reading this quote makes me want to know more about him. Did HE ever attempt the impossible? I wonder. You KNOW.

God, reading your word is similar to reading quotes except that I know that You are perfect and all your words are valuable. KNOWING this makes your word SWEET to my soul and makes me want to know You MORE.

Love,
Me:)

Evil Can Conquer Itself....

Dear God,

I don't like to talk about evil things. Evil exists. I don't even like writing about it. Mankind's mind can think of horrible and despicable things to destroy plants, animals, and people. It seems that evil attacks LIVING things, doesn't it? I hate to write this, but the Devil exists too.

I am comforted and at peace knowing that You are GREATER than evil and Satan. Your word speaks of love AND evil. It speaks of You and Satan. I can't ignore the fact that it exists. I acknowledge it, know it, and run from it. The bible says to run and not cling to evil.

Evil exists, which causes me to want to be closer to YOU. I guess you could say that "Evil conquers itself because it drives people to YOU".

Love,
Me:)

Fearfully and Wonderfully Made♥

Dear God,

My body gets tired. I have been fighting a horrible cold for over two months. These bodies of ours sure can hurt sometimes. What is it going to be like to feel no pain, experience perfect health, and have unending JOY?

Thank you for the earthly body you have given to me. Help me to take care of it in the best way because it is a gift from you.

I love to give gifts and have people get excited when I give it to them. Do you get excited when we show gratitude for what you have given?

Why Do Unbelievers Pray to You?

Dear God,

Do you hear the prayers of the unsaved? I read a short little sentence someone wrote and it said:

"Even though I don't believe in God, I pray to him before......."

If someone doesn't believe in you, WHY would they bother praying to you? But, if they do pray to you, do you hear and do you answer? I think you do have to hear the prayers of those that don't know you because if you did not, how would we initially EVER come to know you? We all start as unbelievers at first, don't we?

Also, these people (myself included) really can't grasp who you ARE. If we could, I don't think we would ever stop talking to you.

Me:)

OH...CURSE Bad Habits...!

Dear God,

There are a lot of bad habits in this world.

Habits seem to shape and form who we are and how we ultimately end up at the end of our lives.

I think that totally stinks.

I read that it takes 27 days to break a bad habit. Really? That means a person could only get rid of about 13 bad habits a year. Is it possible to break 2 or 3 bad ones at the same time?

Quit smoking....quit drinking.....(coffee, alcohol, etc)....quit eating sweets.....OH I CAN'T IMAGINE the MONSTER a person would be if they tried to do three at the same time.

God, you know MY bad habits. Is there any way that you could cut that 27 day thing into about 2 or 3 days so I can get rid of these controlling albatrosses around my neck? I'm ready for some improvement!

Me:)

From Baby Girls to Women

Dear God,

I have loved the process that you created called "growth". I enjoy it in so many aspects.

One particular one is how I have watched our two daughters grow from new born babies to beautiful, strong, intelligent young women. Some people say "it seems like overnight" but NOT me. We have been through many ups and downs and everything in between. Some things could have been worse and some things could have been better. Good and bad, YOU have been there every single day through the process.....strengthening and guiding.

thank you

Thank You
THANK YOU!

I don't know how people do it without YOU. I guess it doesn't matter if I know how they do it or not.

Flies....Ewww....Gross

Dear God,
What is the purpose of flies? They are all over the place in our house these days. One just zoomed right by my face as I was writing this about FLIES. I think he licked my nose with his fly tongue as he flew by me......Gross.

I hate to say this, but I killed 10 of those little boogers yesterday with a fly swatter. I even made it a counting game (1-10) and refused to leave the kitchen until I reached the number "10". I DID reach "10" with no problem.

Is it wrong to kill flies? Some religions say that it IS. Animals were sacrificed in the bible and they were a lot more valuable than a fly. People ate meat (quail, calf, fish). In order to eat these things, they had to be killed first.

I think it is OK to kill flies.

Shhhh......Be Still

Dear God,

It is night time and I am the only one awake at our house. It is so quiet right now. The T.V. is off, no computer is on, all the lights are out except the one here in our bedroom. Our little dogs are sleeping in their blankets in the dog bed on the floor at the foot of our bed, and the bird is covered up and quiet. All I can hear is the sound of our oscillating fan whirring away as my eyelids are getting kind of heavy too.

Thank you for a GOOD day.

Momma and Seed Planting

Dear God,
I remember my mom's laughter. I hear her voice sometimes when "I" speak. She has been gone from this world now for over 10 years.

Would you be so kind to say "hello" to her from her oldest child and let her know that I'm doing fine and that I am totally falling in love with You more and more every day....just in case she ever wonders.

Tell her "Thank You" too for all she did while in this world. A lot of people have told me some goods things that she did for them while she was living. I love that. Her kindness to others and them telling me about it is like receiving flowers from Heaven.

Help ME to plant lots of flowers for my love ones left behind when it is my turn to be with you. I need to be kind to others to do that, it seems.

There Sure is A Lot of Trash Down Here

Dear God,

I guess there won't be trash in Heaven. There sure is a lot of trash down here. Trash is either blowing around in the streets, sitting in my car, stinking up my kitchen, or laying in piles as big as mountains in some enormous land field somewhere on this rock.

TRASH!!

How do you feel about it?

I think it is getting worse down here. I'm just as guilty as some (does not let me off the hook) of not doing my part to prevent it from happening or adding to it in a careless, apathetic way.

I think the main thing is for everyone to CARE. How does that happen? Can you snap your fingers and make people CARE? Not just about trash, but about everything?

There. That solves all problems.

Or, I could start caring and stop being such a lazy "sluggard" about it? It starts with ONE.

Old Grumps and A/C

Dear God,

Were people grumpier back in the days before electricity?

I mean, when the hot days of summer hit them, and there was no A/C or fans to blow on them to keep them cool, did they simply get really grumpy at each other?

I think people should NEVER be old fuss pots if they have electricity, A/C, or fans in their lives.

God is My "absolute"

Dear God,
I think "absolutes" are good. I love black and white answers. I love that 2+2=4. There is no guessing about absolutes. Math contains problems and logical, explainable, practical solutions. A person can argue that they don't like that "4" is the answer to 2+2, but in the end, they are WRONG. Being right or wrong is also an absolute in this life, isn't it?

BUT, what if 2+2=5? What if there was a way to prove that 2+2=4 is wrong and it could be PROVEN that 2+2=5? (believe me, WRITING this feels wrong to me because I KNOW 2+2=4) Everything that I believed about the answer "4" would be WRONG.

Well, this is how I feel when I talk to friends that don't believe in You. I KNOW you are an absolute......I'm just not smart enough to explain it. HELP!!

THANK YOU for Loving US

Dear God,
I was thinking the other day about Jesus' death. I can't imagine how much that hurt you to watch your Son go through that brutal, horrible beating and crucifixion. What a horrible way for us to treat such a treasure that was given to the world. I do not know what kept the world from breaking into pieces that day because you could have done it if you desired. Well, I know that YOU kept it together for US.

John 3:16
"For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have ever lasting life."

I feel these wonderful words are sometimes treated just like Jesus was treated when he was beaten and put to death. I could kiss these words, Lord.

Those THREE Little Words

Dear God,

I think just about everyone knows the phrase, "Those Three Little Words" and what THAT phrase is all about.

Those TLW's are what make the world go around, or so I have been told. It makes people feel warm and fuzzy when they hear someone say them out loud. I have seen and heard people of all ages say those TLW's to other people. Your word speaks a great deal about the word in the middle of that mix. I think there is great value in THAT word and hearing it can mean the difference between life and death for people.

I have discovered a close cousin to the magical TLW's and it carries just as much, if not more weight with us humans.

The Three Little Words that everyone knows are:

I LOVE YOU

The TLW's cousin words are:

I MISS YOU

These words are sweet to my soul too.

God, even though I have never seen you, I MISS You.

Do You Have a Favorite Instrument God?

Dear God,
Do you have a favorite instrument that you like to listen to? Do you even have favorites at all? Do you prefer one thing over another thing? I am so trying to figure out how you may think, but I try to squeeze infinite and Godly ways into my human pea size mind and your ways don't fit. They are just way too big.

The bible mentions harps a lot. Do you like stringed instruments? I sure do. The bible mentions trumpets too. How about horns? Trumpets are so cool. I play a ukulele. Do you like those? God, I love you. I bet you like ukuleles. They are happy little instruments.

Chunky Dog Dreamin'

Dear God,
I think it sounds funny when our dog snores. He is at total peace with the world.

The other day, our dog was sleeping and I guess he was dreaming. His little paws were kicking, his mouth was moving up and down, showing his teeth. He often looked like he was smiling.

I wonder what his limited dog head was thinking about. I am sure it was either chasing a tennis ball or a cat. He is a pretty chunky sized dog, so he might have been chasing a biscuit.

My question about dreams is: Do you speak to us in dreams sometimes, God? I know in the old testament, you did. I am not sure why that would change from days of old until now. I have had some pretty revealing dreams come to me at times. Was that YOU?

Thank you for dreams.

A Never Ending Well of ThOuGhTS!

Dear God,

A thought just occurred to me. Do people ever run out of ideas? Do we ever come to a point in life where we hit the end of our thought process and there is nothing else we can think about or ponder on?

I can't imagine THAT ever happening unless of course we get an illness or dementia sets in. But, even then, don't these people still have thoughts?

I love being around people with thoughts. Sometimes, their thoughts are not the same as my thoughts. Sometimes, their thoughts are contrary to what I believe. When that happens, I use your word as a road map to guide me and test these things out. Sometimes, I find out that my thoughts don't quite match up to what your words say and it is THEN that I am faced with a decision to keep on thinking the way I want to or change the way I think to coincide with what you have said. This leads to more thoughts...a never ending well of thoughts.....

Babies Have Angels

Dear God,
I know this is a pretty broad request, but could you be with the moms and dads tonight that have newborn babies? The first three months are KILLER...for the parents AND the baby.

I know these parents are tired, frazzled, and probably wondering if it will EVER get easier and will they EVER find sleep again.

It does get easier. It really does. They will sleep again, someday. Baby will sleep all night long, someday. It will be all worth it, someday. The problem is that by the time most parents realize the value, the baby is grown and striving for a new life of their own.

Lord, give these special parents a peaceful rest tonight. Please have the baby's angel kiss them goodnight for sweet dreams till morning.

Lord, Be My Strength

Dear God,
HELP!

Some days, I need a lot of help and some days I need a little help and some days, I think that I don't need any help at all.

I am not thinking too clearly when I think that I don't need any help at all because I actually need You every single day.

I am a pretty stubborn person and I often feel that I am internally strong enough to handle most of life's problems "head on". The truth is that ANY day that I wake up, I could face extreme pressure and trauma and I need YOU every day to strengthen, build, develop, and make me into someone that can praise you and help other people while walking around on this rock called Earth.

SOUNDS....Love'em!

Dear God,

Thank you for the sound of running water. I have a CD that I play continuously on my computer at work of river water flowing. This sound brings peace in the middle of great turmoil and busyness at my job. Occasionally on the CD, a bird whistles and a frog croaks. Those are pretty soothing sounds too.

Do you know what other sounds I like to listen to God? I love domestic sounds. The sound of the dryer going, the sound of the washing machine when it is in the spin cycle, the sound of the dishes and glasses clanking together when they are getting their shower in the dishwasher, the sound of the air conditioner/heater when it comes on. I like these sounds too.

Mustard Seeds and Children

Dear God,
I was reading about "faith" today. Hebrews 11:1 says: "Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see."

Hebrews 11 goes on to talk about different people in the past that lived by faith in you. Then, in verse 13, it says that all of the people mentioned that lived by faith were still living by faith when they DIED and that they did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance.....THEN, in Chapter 12, it tell us these people surround US as witnesses and that we should throw off everything that hinders us and run with perseverance the race before us. I am not sure how to take this. It almost doesn't seem fair that these people died BEFORE receiving what they had faith in. It seems having "faith" isn't necessarily the act of receiving stuff. It seems to encompass a great deal more than that to me.

What do I hope for that I am sure about and what am I certain of that I can't see? Your word says that we only need faith the size of a mustard seed and to believe with the heart of a child for it to be real in our lives. Why is it hard for some people to live by faith?

Love,
Me:)

Thank You for People Who Love You

Dear God,
This week, I saw:

*A lady sitting in a window seat, reading your words.
*A man and woman sitting side by side in a library reading your word together.
*A young married couple bowing their heads in a restaurant to pray before they ate.
*A man sitting by himself reading Proverbs 25 (I know, because I looked as I walked by him).

This week, I heard:

*A lady taking to a man as they were walking up some stairs together say, "I don't care if they believe in God, I just don't want them to tell me that I HAVE to believe in Him."

A person doesn't HAVE to believe in you, but I have observed that it seems to be a whole lot better when they do. Isn't it?

Three Legged Dogs Can Do ANYTHING!!

Dear God,
I saw a three legged dog the other day playing ball with his owner. There were other dogs around too, but he was the one that always caught the ball and brought it back. I have two questions about this?

1. Why can't people be like dogs when OUR legs (physical and proverbial) are cut off?
2. If we lose something in our lives, is that supposed to WEAKEN us or STRENGTHEN us?

What are the simple answers to these questions? Oh, wait, that is THREE questions. Sorry.

Sometimes, I don't know what to pray or how to pray for my friends that need you. I always say, "God, be with them and help them." Is that enough?

Lord, what do I need to say to you? What do I need to say about my friends so you will help them?

I have some friends right now that are facing horrible and heavy life situations. I hate to see them in so much pain. Please take this pain away from them and give them comfort.

Somehow, wrap your arms around them and let them know that there is hope and love and answers from you.

Love,
Me:)

Thank You for BEAUTY♥xo

Dear God,
You have created beauty in this world. I am looking, even now as I am writing, at the most beautiful snow covered mountain in Alaska that I have ever seen. I am listening to crashing waves from the Pacific Ocean. If an eagle flies by right now, I think I will just DIE. I want to cry because of the beauty.

Thank you for BEAUTY. Thank you for giving me the inner spirit to marvel at it when I see it. Today, dear Lord, I love you. Thank you for loving me more than I can ever comprehend.

Love,
Me:)

Entertaining Angels

Dear God,
I have read about "entertaining angels unaware".

God, I am sitting in the middle of a very well known and large city here in America at this moment of writing. You know that I am a "small town" kinda girl so it is pretty overwhelming to me.

OK....here's the deal. There are so many street people walking around. I saw a lady holding out a card that said "Hungry" on it. I saw a man with one of his legs cut off, sitting in a wheel chair. He was holding a sign that I did not take the time to read. There were others. As I walked by them, I wondered if they were secret angels sent here to test us to see who had compassion and who did not. Some people say that they are scammers and THAT could be true as well.

God, how do I deal with this? I am confused.

Love,
Me:)

Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.

Tiny Little Things

Dear God,
Riding in an airplane above towns, cities, mountains, rivers, oceans, and clouds, certainly puts a perspective on life for me. I look down on the tiny little cluster of houses and wonder how many people are down there. What are they doing right now? Does anyone have any major problems going on inside of those homes? Is anyone down there talking to YOU?

I think of all the tiny little THINGS in my house in these moments. How much of this stuff needs to leave my life? How much of this stuff do I worry about that does not matter?

On the scale of things, some THINGS are not really as important or deserve the attention that I give to them.

Dear God, help me to view YOUR perspective of life, although I feel pretty certain that your perspective would totally BLOW ME AWAY.

Love,
Me:)
