The Sound of Silence

Dear God,
What does complete silence sound like?

There is a song down here called "The Sound of Silence". Does silence make a sound? This is one of those questions like:

"If God can do everything, can He make a rock so big that He can't lift it?"

The funny thing is, you can answer this question and it would be correct. The other funny thing might be that we wouldn't understand the answer if you DID give it to us.

I digress....

SILENCE.

Love,
Me:)

People Actually WROTE Without Electricity?

Dear God,
It is hard for me to imagine a life without electricity. I often think of the great writers and philosophers of old. These people wrote and thought in a world without electricity. No computers, no cell phones, no indoor plumbing, no refrigerators. They did not even have ice for their drinks?

When people were writing your words out, there weren't even pens or reams of paper laying around. I even take PENS for granted Lord. These people had to get creative to materialize ink and an instrument to dip it in to write down symbols on parchment so that ideas and revelations could be captured.

It was definitely a "different" type of living back then.

Thank you for pens and paper and electricity today.

Love,
Me:)

Instant Wisdom; Is There Such a Thing?

Dear God,
Solomon was so wise to ask for wisdom. Can wisdom be given instantaneously or does wisdom have to be obtained gradually?

Did Solomon get his the moment he asked? Did you fill him to the brim the millisecond the request left his mouth, or was it an "over time" experience for him?

I have so many questions for you God. Are all the answers to my questions in your book? That's for me to find out, isn't it?

Can you instantly snap your fingers and I will automatically know everything? Sure you can. But, where is the fun in THAT for ME? Sometimes, the journey is the best part of the destination. Isn't it?

Me:)

Jesus in My Screen Door

Dear God,
Do angels get to hold the little babies that die on this earth? People down here say that they do.

Are you REALLY in the screen doors and tree trunks and in a box of chicken wings like the news media reports so many times when someone calls them and says you are?

So many questions about YOU?

I have a really hard time buying into the screen door stuff, and I just can't find that in your word.

I think that if you are in these things, and if I ever do happen to see you in the wood grains of my life, I will thank you, praise you, love you, and let it be our little secret, is that OK?

Me:)

I Love OLD People

Dear God,
I love old people.

Now, what is the definition of an "old" person?

The older that I get, the younger "old" people get.

Isn't that funny?

Thank you for old people because, in reality, I am an old person to someone younger than me.

It HURTS when People Hurt

Dear God,
I hate when people hurt. I can feel it in my soul when people around me hurt. Is that your spirit inside of me or is it just me? Is simply "being there" and "acknowledgement" enough for a person when they are broken and hurting and in pain?

Physical and emotional hurts can render people, even me, feeling like there is no hope. I don't like that at all. It seems it can hit at ANY MOMENT in our lives. Again, I DON'T LIKE THAT! I don't want people to hurt. I don't want "ME" to hurt either.

How strange the human spirit is. It seems that our spirits travel up, down, and all around.

God, grab my floating spirit and keep it stable until I can get to you, please.

Me:)

FONTS....I Love'em So

Dear God,
I love fonts. I love the numerous types of characters that make up words. I love the shapes and expressions that every different font or script can represent. (I know that I just wrote about this yesterday, I just love 'em so). I wonder what the FONT will look like in the Lamb's book of life.......?

Was it your idea to provide us with so much variety...even in something as common as the written language? Is the written language common?

I believe that I am amazed once again by your attention to detail. How much more can I handle as a human?

AMAZING Languages

Dear God,
I looked up different types of languages today....particularly the alphabets in Greek, Hebrew, Japanese, and also Gregg's shorthand.

The characters used to form letters to form words that form sounds that form communication in order for people to talk to each other are EXTRAORDINARY to me.

Languages are AMAZING!!!

What language is in Heaven? Will there be a different alphabet there? Will people write in Heaven? I hope so...or maybe even something better than Writing exists that we don't even know about yet.

Holy Spirit GOOD!!

Dear God,
Your Holy Spirit is so strong at times. Sometimes I want to do something SO BAD and your Spirit is grasping my soul and telling me to NOT DO IT!

I know it is your Spirit because I search the scripture and find it in black and white words. I hear it, because I search for the answers from good christian people that know You and they are grounded in your word and have been through many trials while living here.

I am amazed and thankful for this Spirit that guides and protects me from my own foolishness and stupidity.

Thank you for the Holy Spirit.

That's Silly

Dear God,
I can't believe airplanes can fly in the sky. They are made out of metal and they are heavy.

I can't believe wind exists. I can't see it. It's just not there no matter how much I try to view its presence.

I can't believe and don't understand how H20 can be a solid, a liquid, and a gas......REALLY?? How can the same thing be three different things?

I can't believe that the world is round just because people have SAID it is and supposedly have taken pictures of it. I have NEVER truly seen or experienced a ROUND earth for myself in this manner....therefore, I don't believe.

These statements are silly, and it is silly that people don't believe in YOU.

This "TIME" Thing

Dear God,
Why do some people say time doesn't exist? I have said that very thing to people myself. As a human living on this earth, I can say that I WISH time didn't exist, but it does even though I have told people that it does not. Do you see how confusing this is?

Maybe I'm just not enlightened enough yet to see life as something more than just years, months, weeks, days, hours, minutes or seconds. I am beginning to see the value in NOT living like I am constantly running out of it (time that is).

I think I need to work my life by the job and not by the hour. I think it would hold more value if I did. Would it?

This time thing has me puzzled.

Junky House

Dear God,
Can a person be encouraged and discouraged at the same time? Well, I am....at the same time too. How can this be?

I seem to imagine a life of organization and beauty in my home and this encourages me. My home is: my dwelling place, my domain, my messy palace, my junky jail, my place to lay my head at night. THEN, I see the reality of "home" and I get discouraged.

How do I turn the imagination part into the reality part? HOW?

Lord, I need your help to do this. Your word says that I have many plans in my heart, but YOU direct my steps. OK. I have the plans, I NEED you to direct my steps to accomplish my plans please. I will get out of the way and let you help because, quite frankly, I'm just tired of messing up and/or standing still.

Dear God,
I love the way birds sing and I love that there are so many types of birds to sing their songs. I can't imagine a life filled with silent BIRD WHISTLES.

Since birds do not experience joy and happiness like we do, I am so glad that you have given each bird a specific sounding song to add to our inner spirit.

Pressure Hurts

Dear God,
PRESSURE.

Why is it that pressure produces strength, beauty, and durability? Pressure is uncomfortable and it hurts sometimes.

It is hard for me to comprehend that a diamond comes from coal simply because of pressure. What if coal refuses to be a diamond? What happens then? Does it disintegrate? Does it remain coal?

Does pressure HAVE to be applied to humans in order for us to become "diamonds" in this world?

Lord, help me in this time of pure PRESSURE. I know that the end result will be good, but oh how I am feeling it today!

Turkey Necks and Gettin' Older

Dear God,
I want you to know that I am liking the way that I am looking as I get older.

My hands are starting to look like how I remember my mother's hands. I like the little lines around my eyes too.

I am NOT liking the turkey neck though. UGH....

I even like the little bit of gray in my hair at the roots when it starts to grow out from the faded red color that I put on it every 5 to 6 weeks. I'm looking a little older down here on earth, but I am not minding it at all.

Thank you for every bit of it, even the turkey neck!

Will There Be SLEEP in Heaven?

Dear God,
I am so tired that I literally cannot see straight. I have to squint to read the road signs as I am driving down the road.

I LOVE SLEEP.

That was a good thing you invented. There is nothing like waking up after a good sleep and feeling completely rested.

It seems that I know a lot of people that have trouble sleeping at night. I would sure hate that. We humans need sleep to function and survive.

Will we have to (or should I say...GET TO as I love it so much) sleep in Heaven? I guess it won't be necessary, will it?

You are REAL

Dear God,
People say that you are not real. Did Albert Einstein think you were real? I guess only you and he would know the answer to that question.

I see so many things around me that are YOU. I like to think that I view life the same way that children view the world and people around them. I think that I sense things the way that animals sense the vibes in the air. At least, I feel that I do. I don't like to base things a lot on feelings because those can't always be trusted.

I don't question your existence because......I just don't. I don't even consider it a valid question. You are REAL. Why question it?

Dear God,
Sometimes, relationships are

HARD!!

Why are there so many types of relationships? Would it be better to move to a mountain top and be by myself with no relationships of any kind? Why did you make people with the peculiar need to have relationships, to communicate, to connect with each other?

Thorns, Headaches, and Such

Dear God,
Paul had a thorn in his side. I think much has been debated as to what that particular thorn was in his life.

I've had a thorn in my side for over 30 years....migraine headaches. I can't imagine life without them. They have played a huge roll in helping "mold" me into who I am as a person today.

I think everyone has some kind of thorn in their side that helps or hinders them at times.

My thorn has helped me appreciate every inch of day that I live WITHOUT a headache.

Thank you for the thorns in this life that make us better people if we choose to "LET" them point us in that direction. Maybe that is why they are called "thorns". After all, there does seem to be a "point" to them in our lives....

Dear God,

I cry about it.

I shut down at times.

Sometimes, I can't even move when it gets hard.

The Smell of Rain

Dear God,
I love rain.

I love how it smells, how it feels, how it washes things clean. I have read that small children have said to people that the smell of rain or an approaching storm smells like YOU. Is that true or are the stories that I have read just beautiful "make believes" from someone's imagination? It makes for a wonderful thought and gives me a warm fuzzy feeling to read it whether it is true or not.

In reality, what do you really smell like? Rain is a pretty good smell if you do smell like that God. What do you feel like? What do you sound like? Here comes some rain in my eyes now......just wondering.

Wonderful Animals

Dear God,
I think it is really neat how animals are incorporated into our lives. You created some good stuff when you invented animals.

I think my laughter and joy would be less abundant without dogs, birds, horses, turtles, bears, frogs, fish, and even CATS (you KNOW I am not a big fan of cats). Is this why "Gray Kitty" has come into my life? I feed him twice a day, pet his stomach when he rolls on his back, meow and talk to him before I head off for my walks......he is alright, I guess.

Every Empty Word Spoken

Dear God,
Something is bothering me. Your word says (Matt 12:36) that "men will have to give account for every careless word spoken."

What about people that are deaf and can't speak? Do they get off scott free?

Maybe because of the fact that they lived on earth without being able to hear or speak, they get a special blessing when they get to Heaven......I'm really not sure how that works.

I guess that I will find out later. Thank you for letting me be able to hear and speak. I see the importance and accountability of them both. Wow, what an awesome responsibility you have given to me to use them in the best way I can and SHOULD.

Wine in Heaven?

Dear God,
What did the wine that Jesus made taste like? I have tasted wine that was pretty good on this earth and I bet the stuff he made was EXCELLENT and PERFECT.

What will wine taste like in Heaven? Will there be wine there?

Sometimes, I feel like a child at Christmas time wanting to open their presents to see what is in all of the boxes. I want to see what You have for me. I am sure it will be more than I can comprehend.

Vacation Anyone?

Dear God,
Do you ever take vacations? Do you ever want to walk away and sit by a stream.....a river flowing down a mountain side.....sit on a rock with the sun shining on your face and warming your body as the morning temperature is so cool that you have to wear a jacket (your favorite jacket with the tissues in the pockets all waded up from the winter before)?

Do you?

Twenty One Minutes Too Late

Dear God,
Thank you for the tears that I have cried so far today. I have felt like I have needed to cry for quite some time now. Why did it have to start at 2:30 this morning, continue in my car on the way to work, and then even STILL IN MY CAR on the way home from a meeting?

I feel better. The thirteen overdrawn items in my checking account was the trigger, the last straw....OUCH! Sometimes, it takes something like that to help release pain in our souls, I guess. What makes me mad is that it could have been prevented if I had made a transfer TWENTY ONE minutes earlier before the cut off time yesterday. Seems that I am running TWENTY ONE minutes late on many issues lately.

God, can you please help me?

Owls and Samaritans

Dear God,
Why do crows HATE owls? I think owls are so cute.

This morning when I was out walking, two huge barn owls were sitting on the tall peanut dryer roof and a murder (I now know WHY they are called a MURDER) of crows attacked them. They were dive bombing those poor owls until finally they both dove off of the metal perch they were sitting on, and swooped off into some trees. Of course, the horrible crows were in pursuit. I kept on walking. What was I to do? What could I have done? Is this like the good samaritan story? Would I walk away if it were humans and not birds? I hope I would help....

Overcome Evil with Good

Dear God,
Little children are so wonderful. Four year olds are great to be around because they seem to want to learn ALL THE TIME...at least the four year olds that I visit with during the week at work.

A baby's smile totally melts my heart.

Something tragic was told to me today about a nine year old little girl who's father was molesting her. She told the policeman that he had been doing it since she was three years old. God, this is not right! Please help that precious little one to heal. God, help me to know what to do when people are hurting and need me to help them with MORE than mere WORDS.

Thank You for Creating Me

Dear God,
A lump has just formed in my throat as I have started to write this letter to you. First and foremost, THANK YOU!!

Thank you for my life, for my family, for every single breath that I take into my lungs, for music, for my mind, for my heart, for my gifts (the gift of grace). Mostly, Thank You for giving me your Son, Jesus. Thank you for the Holy Spirit that guides me (or at least tries very hard to guide me as you KNOW how stubborn I can be at times.)
